What to do if you cannot make a loan payment on time
How to organize the debt, contact the creditor, and avoid turning one emergency into several debts.
Taking another loan to cover the first can raise the cost and make the situation harder to understand. Start by gathering the contract, balance, and dates.
Calculate the real shortfall
Separate principal, interest, fees, and late charges. Request an updated balance through an official channel.
Contact the lender before the due date
Ask about formal options and request any agreement in writing. Do not assume a message changes the contract.
Protect essential expenses
Prioritize housing, food, health, and basic services. Avoid decisions made under threats or pressure.
Seek guidance
If the response or collection practices do not match the contract, contact the institution's UNE and the appropriate CONDUSEF or PROFECO channel.
